Various spells

While magic is a fickle and unpredictable force, it is easy to manipulate once you know how. Most wizards keep spellbooks around, and often trade and exchange spells and spellbooks. Over time, this has led to a multitude of spells commonly available to all magic users out there, but rumours speak of rare and powerful spells.
The greatest collection of spells in the world may be found in the Elthern libraries, collected there by countless scholars over the centuries since magic first appeared. Most journeyman wizards go there at least once to find useful new spells.

A wizard is defined as someone who is capable of casting regular spells, in addition to using his or her personally developed magical ability. A regular spell is therefore defined as something most wizards can cast by following a formula developed by the wizard who invented the spell. Using one's own magical ability, no matter how one twists and bends it, does not count as spellcasting, and one cannot be considered a wizard by doing so.

It is also important to note that one's own magical ability normally does not limit the types of spells one can cast; it only, in some cases, limits how one can combine one's magical ability with a spell. A wizard with a magical ability conjuring water, for example, can still combine his magical ability with a fireball, but the result will - if provided enough magical energy - turn into a steam bolt instead of a fireball. If sufficient magical energy can not be provided, the spell simply fizzles.
