[Encounters] Dangers at Sea Empty [Encounters] Dangers at Sea

Post  Karthusin Sun May 25, 2014 12:13 pm

In addition to the supposed Sea God, there are multiple other sightings of ''writhing masses of muscle and tentacles''.

Spoiler:

Whilst much smaller in size, they still pose a threat, mainly to fishermen. These terrors are most frequently spotted during harsh storms, moving with the tides. Observers speculate that they spend a vast majority of their time dormant when the sea is calm, but are pushed towards aggressiveness when it becomes uneasy and as such, perhaps even oblivious to the presence of vessels, they may end up colliding or whiplashing them with one of their many limbs. When Vashkin are concerned, they advise not to reply in an aggressive fashion, as it risks the attention of a ''Great One''.

[Encounters] Dangers at Sea Empty Sirens

Post  Karthusin Sun May 25, 2014 12:19 pm

Although scarcely seen, certain sailors believe to have heard distant songs whilst out in the deep sea with no civilization in sight. Furthermore many are believed to have been lured towards the sounds, with few managing to resists their influence when on the very edge of their afflicting range. Even then, the influence has proven to be so great that, even upon arriving back home, the sailors would be eager to go out to sea again in order to hear the marvelous voice of the ones who called out to them. This has proven to be a great threat to any seafaring nation as the sirens have proven to be extremely secretive, to the point that even Vashkin claim to have never witnessed them in truth, though how much of that is earnest is down to how much one is willing to believe the waterborne nation.

[Encounters] Dangers at Sea Empty Vashkin Cult of the Deep Sea

Post  Karthusin Sun May 25, 2014 12:22 pm

Although heavily denied by the race in question, many are led to believe that the Vashkin have a far-reaching cult, dedicated to their belief of a deep sea, which is not at all far-fetched considering what the supposed ''civilized'' race has been known to believe and worship.

In particular, rich merchants from the likes of Elthern and Orgonia have oftentimes been targetted, with a number of them having vanished to sea, leaving very little, if any trails behind, along with their whole escorts. Whilst none such have returned to tell the tale, observers of the likes of fishermen and distant outlooks for larger vessels say that they have witnessed the cultists, as well as their methods of abducting victims. In his journal, Alassi Alad'han states, that he ''saw groups of humanoid creatures closing the distance towards an orgonian trade ship, property of Bahad Zhalfar(An established trader, who deals in exotic, seaborne goods), afterwhich they rose above the waterlevel, casting a spell in order to destabilize the ship's balance, before toppling it over with an unnaturally large wave during calm sea. Following which they vanished in a sudden mist."

In addition to his writings, Alassi has even gone as far as to draw the cultists and what he suspected was their leader, bringing them up to the Sultan, who is believed to have placed a nation-wide mark of death on them, regardless of Vashkin opposition, in regards to which he has supposedly replied that ''If you disclaim their existence, they will not be missed."
