Different World: Two continents, two ages.  And magic to top it off.
Below is a general description of the things I have so far.  I will add more, and feel free to throw ideas at me.

The world:
This world is split in two almost equally large continents.  One is a modern continent where people live in similar standards as we do today.  Another is a medieval continent, where war and conflict has left deep traces on the land.  Into all this comes magic as a part of nature itself.

The continents:
The modern continent has thrived off centuries of peace and trading.  It's developed technology that matches ours, and with many resources left untouched, it can develop for ages more.  However, due to this peace, weapons are scarce, and only some peacekeeping troops have official access to weaponry.  It is governed not by a single president, but by a congress of tradesmen, city officials and workers, and these in turn follow an agreement written fifteen hundred years ago.

The medieval continent has not fared as well.  It has seen centuries of warfare, with even the mightiest cities fallen in sieges, and much of the resources of the area has been spent in the war.  Only recently have some respite been found, thanks to the initiative of one of the strongest military countries on the continent: Adrila.  This country has grown powerful by defeating several surrounding nations, and other countries have stopped fighting amongst each other out of fear for the Adrilans setting their gaze upon them next.

Spiritual beliefs:
In this world, gods have a presence.  There are vast numbers of lesser gods, each embodying a virtue, profession or emotion.  The gods are single-minded and focus on their embodiment alone.  It is unsure whether these gods existed before humans or if humans created the gods through subconscious magic.  Scientists are still researching this, as there is no proper explanation as to how humans appeared on either continent, but modern scientists have started believing there are answers to be found on the medieval continent.

The Great Sea:
The two continents are separated by a wide sea, one that has been impossible to cross as long as humans can remember.  Only one day every year can it be crossed.  Any other day, the sailors either find themselves turned back to where they came from, or more often, they disappear without a trace.  Airplanes from the modern continent has also tried to fly across, but to no avail.  This is the biggest reason for the separated development: Communication between the continents have been severely crippled.

Magic:
Using magic is completely normal; while not everyone has the ability to use it, it's as much part of anyone as their blood.  The majority of people in the modern continent can utilize it to some extent and control it well, but unleashing its full power, or anything beyond a small fragment, is very rare.  In the medieval world, the use of magic is less common.  Sometimes battles are won by a single unit of spellcasters devastating thousands of foot troops, but with magic being as unpredictable as it is at full power, this is rarely the case.  Magic abilities can save one's life in dire situations, or (more rarely) it might cause one to combust and die a terrible death.  A person's magical ability is dependant on their non-magical power.  A king's magical power would be strong, because he commands many people, while a slave would have nearly no power at all.  However, a king's magical power would be mostly directed towards influencing others, while a farmer would possess the ability to make things grow or heal.

That annoying note from the creator:
This setting is meant to be flexible and allow much variety in its use.  Whether it's a day at work where magic works with you, armoured knights clashing together on a field of battle, or travellers crossing the sea to see the other continent, the purpose of the RP is to provide a chance to imagine a different world.  Once through the prologue chapters I will try to lead characters through two main stories, with opportunity for many side stories.  There will be one main story for each continent, with an opportunity to meet and exchange characters from both continents.  Of course, nothing is set in stone, and depending on feedback I can change things.  I'll update with important regions and such things, when such things get worked out.

First Sub-setting:
Adrilan Royalty

At this point, the current King of Adrila, the strongest military nation and the most peaceful region in the Old World, is getting old. He seeks to decide which of his children would make the best ruler. This sub-setting is one that will impact the world majorly, because the quality of Adrila's next ruler may either lead the Old World into a more peaceful age, or make Adrila collapse and completely unmake everything his/her father did for the kingdom.

Main roles:
King Arrendal (RPed by Bjorn)
Princes/Princesses (RPed by you others)
Royal Knights, one for each prince/princess (RPed by all those willing to. Knights will be assigned to other RPers' royalty members, for furthering RP)
Any advisory roles and so on are also welcomed, but not mandatory.
